Why Southern California leads the demand for advanced composite forming technologies
Los Angeles and the broader Southern California region stand at the absolute epicenter of high-performance manufacturing, harboring the world's most demanding aerospace hubs, burgeoning Electric Vehicle (EV) startups, and advanced defense suppliers. As regulatory bodies enforce aggressive carbon neutrality targets, particularly within the state of California under CARB (California Air Resources Board), industrial manufacturers are actively seeking alternatives to traditional metallurgy. This has catalyzed an unprecedented transition towards advanced lightweight composites like Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), Bulk Molding Compound (BMC), Glass Mat Thermoplastic (GMT), and High-Pressure Resin Transfer Molding (HP-RTM).
Jiangdong Machinery addresses this demand by delivering turnkey composites compression molding forming technologies tailored to meet stringent aerospace tolerances and rapid automotive cycle-time expectations. From El Segundo to Pasadena, local OEMs rely on high-capacity hydraulic press lines capable of micro-precision pressing speeds, active parallel leveling systems, and customizable heating matrices. Beyond local supply chains, the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach serve as global arteries, linking our manufacturing facilities with North American, European, and Asian markets, facilitating seamless transit for capital equipment of significant tonnage.
Optimized systems for carbon fiber, thermoplastic, and thermoset structural molding
Unlocking superior mechanical properties and cycle times through advanced machine engineering
Successful composites compression molding requires deep understanding of material kinetics and physical transformation behavior. The performance of SMC, BMC, GMT, and PCM is heavily dependent on pressure application rates, heat distribution across the mold core and cavity, and structural deflection limits under load. For instance, in carbon fiber high-pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM), resin flow dynamics necessitate accurate injection tracking integrated with the press's dynamic control loop.
Jiangdong Machinery designs presses equipped with closed-loop electro-hydraulic servo systems, offering adjustable fast-closing velocities up to 800 mm/s and pressing speeds down to 0.05 mm/s. By incorporating multi-cylinder proportional control, we achieve dynamic parallelism of 0.05mm/m, preventing asymmetrical laminate distribution and resin starvation—common causes of failure in critical aerospace components.
The LFT-D process couples plasticizing compounding directly with compression molding. Glass/carbon fibers and polypropylene or polyamide pellets are combined inline, extruded, cut to weight, and pressed instantly to prevent thermal degradation.
For structural carbon fiber components, High-Pressure Resin Transfer Molding ensures dry fiber preforms are completely impregnated with low-viscosity resin at high pressures, reducing cycle times to under 3 minutes.
Our patented four-corner dynamic leveling uses fast-response hydraulic servo valves and high-precision linear encoders to maintain absolute parallelism during the cure and reaction cycles.
